The exciting sale on the afternoon of Friday 24th June features Raich Carters Personal Archive
of his sporting life and career and thence by family descent, as well as an extensive private lifelong collection of Hull memorabilia and items of Yorkshire interest (and beyond!). Highlights include important and rare early Raich Carter memorabilia, in particular, his own personal biographical scrap-book in two volumes (lot 3516) and an interview recording of John Lennon conducted by a student of Hull University in 1964 (lot 3571).

Football Association illuminated manuscript certificate awarded to Horatio Stratton Carter (Raich Carter) dated April 1946 in recognition of his representing England in the War Time International matches, listing fourteen appearances out of the twenty-nine unofficial matches played during the War against Scotland, Wales and France from December 1939 to May 1945, to which is added three post-war Victory International games against Ireland, Switzerland and France May - September 1946. 35 x 27cm, card mounted in a gilt frame. Auctioneers Note: War Time Internationals were not rewarded with Caps but when the War finished certificates were issued by the Football Association and this is the original scroll presented to Raich Carter. Modern Guild of Hull Silversmiths silver ewer, of tapering cylindrical form with waisted neck and C handle, upon a circular foot with key fret border, hallmarked J & K R, Birmingham 1990, also marked with the three crowns mark of the Guild of Hull Silversmiths, H20cm, approximate weight 7.16 ozt (223 grams) Abraham Barachin was the last Hull silversmith to use the Hull mark of three ducal coronets in around 1706. However in 1983 the Assay Offices of Great Britain and the City of Kingston upon Hull granted the Guild of Hull Silversmiths permission to use the City's Coat of Arms as an additional mark on pieces they produced.

John Lennon interview recording conducted by John Hill student of Hull University on the 16th October 1964 at the A.B.C. Theatre Hull on behalf of the university newspaper 'Torchlight'. The interview lasts eight and a half minutes. It catches John in an upbeat breezy mood answering questions about the following topics: the song writing process ('sometimes you get an idea ....I dunno....my left leg.... and then write about that....'), recording (.... 'they just say - you're recording on such and such a date and they hope we turn up with some good songs written ....'), an alternative career path (.... 'I'd probably just have been a lay-about....'), failing at college (....'some other lads did my exams for me ....'), reading matter ( Clockwork Orange, Alice in Wonderland), his books of prose, tastes in music, the Blues, The Rolling Stones, being a Beatle vis-a-vis anonymity ('Whatever I'd be I'd choose to be rich .... who wants to walk down the street?'). The interview was recorded on 1/4 inch Emitape on a Fi-Cord Fidelity Recording machine. The reel-to-reel tape comes in its original Emitape plastic box and is accompanied by the Fi-Cord reel-to-reel machine on which the interview was originally recorded. Also included in this lot are a copy of the 'Torchlight' newspaper from 21st November 1964, two photographs of the interviewer with John Lennon (the interviewer is pictured to the left of John Lennon in the photograph in which John is signing a sketch) and one photograph of Paul McCartney with another reporter, the largest measures 12 x 16.5cm and a transcript of the interview. The recording is also accompanied by the original Fi-Cord tape recorder with microphone, four original 2v batteries and battery charger. The tape recorder has been adapted to take 3xAA batteries and the 2v battery charger is fitted with a standard UK 3-pin AC plug. The interview was recorded in the press room prior to the Beatles concert at the A.B.C. Theatre and is sold with copyright.
