Held on Friday 14th June, our summer edition of the curated Country House Sale was one of the most anticipated events of the year at Duggleby Stephenson. We are proud to say it showcased one of our finest collections to date.

Featuring a diverse array of items typical of a traditional country estate, along with collections from noble houses, this sale presented an eclectic lineup of truly striking pieces. The event was a resounding success, attracting collectors and enthusiasts from across the globe, and highlighted the profound appreciation for antique and historical items.

Lot 6300 & 6262

18th Century and Later Continental Giltwood Console Table
(pictured above, left)

 

A magnificent example of 18th-century craftsmanship, this giltwood console table features a stunning variegated rouge and white veined marble top. Adorned with intricate carvings of an eagle amidst oak leaves and flourishing foliage, it exudes elegance and historical charm. This exceptional piece commanded a price of £1,400.

 

Late 18th Century Sheraton Satinwood Console Table

Exuding the refined taste of late 18th-century Sheraton design, this satinwood console table from circa 1790 is a masterpiece of decorative art. Its surface is adorned with exquisite painted motifs including fruits, peacock feathers and lush floral arrangements. The craftsmanship and attention to detail make it a standout piece, fetching £2,900 at auction.

Late 19th Century Limestone Horse Mounting Block


This late 19th-century limestone horse mounting block, featuring four steps and hewn sunken panelled sides, is a splendid example of period craftsmanship. The back is intricately carved with the Wombwell crest, depicting a unicorn head rising over a 'W' monogram, belonging to Sir George Orby Wombwell, 4th Baronet (1832 - 1913). This unique piece sold for £4,400.

Rabbitman Oak Dining Chairs

A charming set of six (4+2) oak dining chairs by Peter Heap of Wetwang, known as Rabbitman, featuring carved and pierced lattice backs and tan leather upholstered seats with stud banding. The chairs, with octagonal front supports and plain stretchers, each bear the distinctive rabbit signature. This set achieved an impressive £1,400.

 

Mouseman Oak Chest
(pictured above, right)


An exquisite oak chest from the workshop of Robert Thompson, known as Mouseman, featuring a raised back over an adzed rectangular canted top, fitted with two short over four long graduating drawers. Raised on octagonal and block feet and carved with the iconic mouse signature, this piece sold for £4,800.
