Held on Friday 14th June, our summer edition of the Country House Sale was one of the most anticipated events of the year at Duggleby Stephenson. Such was the excitement and the wealth of exceptional lots that we have curated a second feature with additional standout items.

Proudly showcasing one of our finest collections to date, the sale featured a diverse array of items typical of a traditional country estate, alongside treasures from noble houses. Collectors and enthusiasts from across the globe eagerly participated, underlining the profound appreciation for antique and historical items.

Lots 6012, 6007 & 6000

18th Century Delft Drug Jar

A captivating relic from the 18th century, this Delft drug jar showcases a delicate blue scrolling strapwork label inscribed 'Cerat. Albu:'. Crowned with a shell, cherubic putti and intricate foliate motifs, this jar stands at a height of 17.5cm (pictured above, left). It fetched a notable sum of £2,500 at auction.

William Moorcroft - James Macintyre & Co Florian Ware Hazeldene Pattern Twin Handled Vase

Crafted circa 1902-1903, this William Moorcroft creation, in collaboration with James Macintyre & Co, is a masterpiece in Florian ware. The vase boasts a swollen cylindrical form adorned with a continuous landscape scene set against a pristine white backdrop. It bears Moorcroft's distinctive green painted signature, alongside printed factory marks and registration numbers 397964 and 360574. Standing tall at 30cm (pictured above, center), this exquisite piece commanded a price of £2,700 at auction.

Pilkington's Royal Lancastrian Sea Maiden Vase

A striking creation from Pilkington's Royal Lancastrian pottery, this Sea Maiden vase is a collaboration between renowned artists Walter Crane and Richard Joyce. The vase, set against an ivory ground, features intricate detailing and bears impressed marks from the period between 1905-1913, including cyphers representing both Crane and Joyce, with the specific number 2472. Standing at an impressive height of 25.5cm (pictured above, right), this exceptional piece was sold for £5,400.

 

Lots 6230, 6153 & 6053

Jaeger Le Coultre - Gilt Brass Atmos Clock

From 1971, this Jaeger Le Coultre Atmos Clock, bearing serial number 343928, exemplifies timeless craftsmanship. Encased in glazed brass with canted angles, its circular white dial showcases Arabic and baton hour markers. This Classic Model V houses a 526 calibre skeletonised movement with a rotating pendulum, uniquely powered by changes in air temperature and pressure. Complete with its original case and paperwork (pictured above, left), this marvel of horology was acquired for £1,300.

English School (18th Century): Portrait of a Boy

An oil on canvas painting from the 18th century depicts a young boy, unsigned but resonating with historical charm. Measuring 42cm x 34cm (pictured above, center), this portrait captures a moment of innocence and heritage, fetching £1,500 at auction.

Early Victorian Silver Castle-Top Snuff Box

Crafted in Birmingham in 1841 by Nathaniel Mills, this early Victorian silver snuff box is a testament to exquisite silversmithing. Its rectangular form features a hinged cover adorned with a raised view of York Minster, complemented by gilded interiors and delicate foliate scroll borders. The sides and base are elegantly engine turned, with the base bearing an inscription "To T Greatorex from his son George on his 75th Birthday wishing him many happy returns of the day 21st May 1861". Measuring 8cm x 5cm (pictured above, right), this exceptional piece sold for £2,200, reflecting its historical significance and fine craftsmanship.
