This Art Nouveau display cabinet by Shapland & Petter from Barnstaple (1854-1999) dates back to the early 1900s. Crafted from mahogany, it features a raised shelf with a panel inlaid with heart and stylised tulips, surrounded by curled leaves and a balustrade. The cabinet is enclosed by two astragal glazed doors, revealing a lined interior with two shelves.
The central upright section is recessed and fitted with a single shelf, while the arched lower section boasts an undertier. The spandrels are intricately inlaid with stylised flower heads and trailing branches. The cabinet stands on stylish supports that terminate in moulded pad feet. Notably, the locks bear the stamp 'S&B, B', and it was retailed by 'Denby & Spinks, Leeds'. A plaque verso adds to its provenance and authenticity.
This exquisite piece would make a stunning addition to any Art Nouveau collection, with its intricate inlay work and elegant design. Don't miss the opportunity to bid on this rare and exceptional cabinet at the upcoming auction by Duggleby Auctioneers.
