Notes: the Pier was a short lived feature in Scarborough's history; it first opened to the public on 1st May 1869 but was almost totally wrecked in the gales of January 1905. Albert Horsley, son of Scarborough picture framer John Horsley, studied under Albert Strange at the Scarborough School of Art where he later worked as Assistant Master from around 1895. He also appears to have worked as a framer like his father as this is his stated profession in the 1891 census and the 1911 trade directory, where he is recorded as living at 4 York Place.
