Victorian silver mounted oak casket, of bombe form, with ornate scrolling silver mounts and beaded rim, set with a silver medallion to centre of hinged cover, engraved "Dock Company at Kingston Upon Hull, Incorporated AD 1774" and with The Hull Dock Company's crest, the silver-gilt interior containing a removable rosewood compartment with two covered recesses, each with bone finials, the underside of the cover engraved in Latin and reputedly translated as "To the company by whose outlay and labour the dock honoured with the name of Albert has been constructed at Kingston Upon Hull, Dudley Robert Smith presents this casket, fashioned from a log found in the remains of the submerged forest when the waters retreated as a gift from one partner to the others and an ... of all good fortune, 1866", hallmarked William Summers, London 1869, H10.5cm, W17.5cm, D12cm
