A 19th century mahogany longcase, hood with a swan’s neck pediment, brass patera and central finial, break arch hood door flanked by reeded pillars with brass Corinthian capitals and shaped back splats to the rear, trunk with a three-quarter length door and concave twin spire top, with stringing and a conch shell inlaid oval paterae, plinth with an applied shaped skirting and inlay, the 11” wide break arch painted dial with upright Arabic numerals, quarter hours and minute track, identical painted spandrels to the four corners and a representation of flowers and leaves to the arch, matching steel hour and minute hands with a steel second hand, highlighted semi-circular date aperture with the disc to the rear, dial pinned via a false plate to a four pillar 19th century eight-day rack striking movement striking the hours on a bell, weight driven trains with a recoil anchor escapement, dial inscribed “Watson, Kirby Moorside”.
