Explore a fascinating entomology collection featuring over one hundred butterfly specimens, predominantly Delius and African Colotis species. This assemblage includes notable specimens like Delias Pheres, Delias ladas, and Delias Iltis. The butterflies are carefully preserved within wartime cabinets originally from the British Natural History Museum.
The cabinets, with seven double-glazed drawers each, were utilised to safeguard the Museum's entire insect collection during World War Two. These cabinets were relocated from the Museum to a secure location outside of London to protect them from the Blitz. Each cabinet features eight drawers with top handles for easy lifting and transportation. The drawers are designed with adjustable corked wood slats to accommodate insects of various sizes, ensuring they are neatly arranged in rows.
Accompanying this entomological treasure trove are two illustrated books focusing on the genus Delias of the World. These books, written in Japanese, contain coloured plates showcasing specimens and their natural habitats, adding an educational and aesthetic dimension to this unique collection.
