Join us for our Autumn Art Sale, a distinguished event showcasing an exceptional selection of fine art by leading British and International artists. Ending from 11am on Friday 19 September, this sale reflects a strong emphasis on quality, provenance and artistic merit, with works spanning the 17th to 20th centuries.
Among the highlights is 'Whitby from Scotch Head' by John Atkinson Grimshaw, a luminous oil dated 1886 that captures the artist’s enduring fascination with the Yorkshire coast. Exhibiting his signature treatment of light and atmosphere, the work has passed through several noted collections and was catalogued with the assistance of the late Alexander Robertson, Grimshaw’s foremost biographer and a leading authority on Victorian art.
The sale also presents a particularly strong showing of works by artists associated with the Staithes Group, led by Mark Senior’s celebrated Royal Academy exhibit 'A Flemish Fishmarket', as well as the large-scale portrait 'The Ives Family', a work of both artistic and social interest, retained by the artist’s descendants for over a century. Paintings by Frederick William Jackson, Robert Jobling and Arthur Friedenson further capture the vitality and light of the North Sea coast, and represent some of the finest examples of early British plein-air painting to come to market in recent years.
Adding international breadth are a dynamic Cubist street scene by Jean Lambert-Rucki, and an evocative harbour composition by Edward Caruana Dingli, likely a preparatory oil for one of the celebrated watercolours featured in 'The Colour and Life of Malta'. A limited edition lithograph by L.S. Lowry, signed in pencil and bearing the Fine Art Trade Guild blindstamp, adds a modern counterpoint to the collection.
Uniting celebrated names, private provenance and scholarly interest, the Autumn Art Sale offers an enticing opportunity to acquire works of enduring quality and character. Explore the catalogue and place your bids now.
