2024 was an extraordinary year at Dugglebys, filled with remarkable sales and exceptional finds.

 

Hylton Nel Pottery Collection

In August 2024, one collection truly stood out above the rest, captivating bidders and setting impressive benchmarks—an exceptional collection of Hylton Nel (1941-) pottery. The works of the beloved South African ceramicist drew significant attention, with pieces far surpassing their estimates and sparking fierce competition in the auction room.

A group of four medals comprising a General Service Medal 1918-62 with Cyprus and GVI Malaya clasps awarded to LE. P. Furse RA, a General Service Medal 1962 with Borneo and Northern Ireland clasps awarded to Major P.J. Furse RA, a 1939-45 War Medal, and an ERII 1977 Jubilee Medal. The lot includes three matching groups of miniatures, a Mention in Dispatches certificate, and a 2nd Lieutenant commission award certificate. Sold For: £1,400.

Four early 19th-century Dresden cups and saucers, including a twin-handled chocolate cup and cover decorated with floral swags, a cup and saucer decorated with children dancing, and two others. Sold For: £1,300.

This remarkable Jaeger LeCoultre 8-day circular skeleton clock, was discovered during our valuation day at Elsham Golf Club. Its fascinating journey, from being overlooked at a car boot sale to becoming a star of our auction, even made headlines in the Grimsby Telegraph and Hull Daily Mail.
