What is Auction Advance?

Auction Advance is a service from Duggleby Auctioneers that gives you a guaranteed upfront payment for your items before they go to auction. You get money straight away, and if your items sell for more, you receive the extra balance after the sale — minus standard commission and fees.

Which items are eligible?

Auction Advance is available for items with a steady and reliable market value, typically including:

• Jewellery (gold, silver, platinum, gemstones)
• Coins and medals
• Watches
• Gold and silver items

Other small valuables may also be considered. Eligibility is always at the valuer's discretion, based on demand, condition and market trends. You can find out more on our eligible items page.

How do I get started?

Simply get in touch or book a free valuation. We'll let you know if your items qualify for Auction Advance and can arrange free Royal Mail collection at a time that suits you. You can get started here.

How soon will I receive payment?

Once you accept our offer, we'll transfer your guaranteed payment securely into your bank account within 24 hours. Additional payments following auction are processed as soon as funds from the buyer have been received, usually within 5 working days.

What if my items sell for more than the guaranteed payment?

If your item achieves a higher price at auction, we'll transfer the extra amount (minus our standard seller's commission and fees) to your bank account within five working days of the buyer completing payment.

What if my items sell for less?

If your item sells for less than your guaranteed payment, you still keep the full amount you originally received. There's no risk of having to return any money — you win either way.

What are your fees and commission?

Standard seller fees apply to all Auction Advance items:

• 20% commission
• £5 lot fee per item

These are deducted only from the final auction proceeds if your item sells for more than your guaranteed payment.

Can I change my mind after accepting the offer?

Once you've accepted and received your guaranteed payment, the item is formally consigned for auction and cannot be withdrawn. However, you're under no obligation to accept the offer in the first place — it's entirely your choice.

How is my payment sent?

All payments are made securely by bank transfer to the account details you provide. We never make cash payments for security reasons.

Is the service safe?

Yes — Duggleby Auctioneers have been trusted for over 30 years. We use insured Royal Mail collection, secure handling, and full transparency at every stage, so your items are always protected.

How does Auction Advance compare to other instant-buy services?

Unlike companies that buy your items outright for a fixed price, Auction Advance lets you get paid now and still share in the upside if your item performs better at auction.

We only profit when you do — that's what makes Auction Advance fairer and more rewarding.

How will I know when my item sells?

You'll receive confirmation once your item has sold, along with your auction result summary and any additional payment due.
