Joseph Saer of London- Queen Anne 8-day walnut longcase cock, with a flat topped pediment and a wide moulded cornice, blind frieze beneath with a square hood door and attached pilasters, veneered trunk with a long trunk door and convex moulding to the edge, on a short plinth with a convex moulding and applied skirting, 12" brass dial with cherub and crown spandrels, matted dial centre with ringed winding holes, scroll steel hands, square date aperture and seconds dial, silvered chapter with Roman numerals, five minute Arabic's, minute track and inner quarter track with half hour markers, dial pinned directly to a five pillar movement with a recoil anchor escapement and countwheel striking movement, sounding the hours on a cast bell. With brass cased weights and pendulum.
Joseph Saer is recorded as working from Penpool Lane, London, from 1687-1704 and is mentioned as an early member of the London Clockmakers Company.
