Case raised on three circular columns with block supports. This instrument is typical of the type of piano being made in Vienna in the early 19th century and a type of piano possibly familiar to Beethoven during the period of the composers’ later compositions. This piano is thought to be one of the earliest known pianos by this maker and was discovered in Milan in the 1870’s. A retailer’s trade label from that period is attached to the soundboard.

Presenting a beautiful Austrian "Viennese" Grand Piano crafted by Joseph Böhm circa 1820. This straight triple strung piano features a Viennese action, adjustable escapement rail, and some new dampers and damper felt with leather-covered hammers. The soundboard has been shimmed in places, and the bridge is in good condition. Notably, it may have been restrung at some point, with one tuning pin and two strings missing. The action offers good repetition and damping, although some adjustment may be needed for both the action and pedals.

With a six-octave keyboard boasting 78 keys (C1-F7), this piano showcases Ivory naturals and ebony sharps. It is equipped with a lyre supported on a stretcher with seven pedals, including Bells & Drum, Treble Sustain, Full Sustain, Piano & Pianissimo, Bassoon Stop, and Una Corda. The piano also features an adjustable open lattice music desk and an ebonised panel above the keys adorned with decorative gilt mounts depicting imperial eagles, grapevines, scrollwork, and angelic trumpeters.
